Home Delivery Service Program Policy

It has been the policy of the Taunton Public Library Board of Trustees to provide a home delivery service to library patrons in their homes and/or nursing homes and like facilities since 1968 under the following conditions:

  • The patron must reside in the city of Taunton.
  • The patron must be unable to leave his/her residence on a temporary or permanent basis.
  • The patron must have a SAILS card in good standing.
  • Deliveries will not be made at night, weekends, or holidays.
  • Deliveries will not be made to households where the program volunteer feels threatened by pets, family members or other unsafe conditions.
  • Deliveries will be terminated once the patron is determined to be no longer homebound by the patron or program volunteer or Community Relations Librarian.
  • The patron or someone in his/her behalf must work with the Community Relations Librarian in assessing eligibility, outlining delivery dates, times, conditions, and reviewing genres and formats of materials.

Home Delivery Service Guidelines

It shall be the policy of the Taunton Public Library Board of Trustees to continue a home delivery service, started in 1968, following the guidelines below:

1. The Community Relations librarian will be the coordinator of the Home delivery service program, under the supervision of the Circulation Supervisor

2. The Home delivery service Policy must be followed.

3. Whenever possible, bags provided by the Bristol County Savings Bank should be used to deliver materials.

4. In the event that staff is not available to act as program deliverers, volunteers will be used.

5. All volunteers must under go a CORI check with the city of Taunton.

6. All volunteers must use their own vehicles and are responsible for their own gas.

7. Any volunteer found to be detrimental to the library’s home delivery service program or posing a problem for the patron in any way, will be terminated from the Home delivery program.

8. Volunteers delivering materials are covered by City insurance for limited situations in the case of accident in the performance of duties on behalf of the library, City of Taunton or against claims arising from the wrongful acts, errors, or omissions of any City employee or volunteer acting within the scope of his/her duties, which results in personal injury or property damage.
