General Computer Rules Policy

All users must have a SAILS library card in good standing in order to be registered for computer and Internet use privileges.

Patrons will be required to read and sign the computer policies.

For children under the age of 18, a parent or legal guardian must read and sign the computer policies.

Children in grade 5 and under, with prior computer/Internet use already approved by a parent or legal guardian, must be accompanied at the computer station by an adult family member while using the computer/Internet. This adult can be an older sibling in grade 6 to 12 as long as the older sibling has prior written permission by a parent or legal guardian.

If the child in grade 5 or under does not have parental permission to use the computer/Internet, the accompanying adult family member can use the computer/Internet with the child present as long as the accompanying adult has read and signed the computer/Internet policy.

Children in grade 6 or higher, with prior computer/Internet use already approved by a parent or legal guardian, do not need to be accompanied by an adult to use the computer/Internet.

Only 2 patrons at a time are allowed at the computer.

Reservations are strongly suggested and can be done by phone at the main and reference desks. If you are unable to keep your appointment, call to cancel your reservation. We will wait 15 min. past your reserved time for you to arrive. If you do not show up within these 15 min we will cancel your reservation.

Sign up is for one computer at one time.

Use is limited to 1 hour. Additional sessions are allowed depending upon reservations but total use cannot exceed 2 hours per day total on all stations.

Any software that must be installed in order to be used cannot be used on any library computer without the consent of the Computer Reference Librarian. Private files and documents cannot be saved to the computers and will be deleted.

Pages printed from the computer are 15 cents for each page printed. You are responsible for checking on your print project once you press print. If you do not check your print project and make multiple copies of the same page, you are responsible for these copies. Failure to pay for any or all pages printed will result in the suspension of computer privileges until payment is make. Repeated refusal to pay for printed pages will result in the suspension of computer privileges.

The library will provide Floppy discs for $1.00 each and CD-R, CD-RW discs for $2.00 each.

Private files are deleted.

The Taunton Public Library is not responsible for any data lost as a result of faulty
media programs, etc. Computer users are responsible for any damage to hardware
and software and may be liable for repairs and replacement costs.

The library staff is available for basic guidance but will not instruct in the use of
specific programs.

Problems encountered while using the computer should be reported to library staff immediately.
